  • I have an IdeaPad 100-15IBY 80MJ with 4 GB RAM (in slot #1 and slot#2 is empty), 500 GB Hard Disk, and Intel Pentium. I want to upgrade my laptop’s RAM to 16 GB, but i am not sure if my laptop is compatible of 16 GB or not. Same case is with the Hard Drive. I want 1 TB but i don’t know if it’s compatible or not. Can you guide me with the Maximum RAM capacity of each slot so that i can purchase RAM accordingly? Also please guide me of i can install SSD instead of HDD or if SSD is not possible, can i install 1 TB HDD in laptop??
    • The IdeaPad 100-15IBY Platform Specifications state that it supports the following 8GB max / 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, one 204-pin SO-DIMM socket * System clocks down for processors with lower memory controller, so it appears that it has only a single SODIMM slot, with an 8GB max.
    • Note that it supports only low voltage (1.35V) DDR3L RAM
    • It is not unusual for CPU-Z or Task Manager to report phantom memory slots when the physical slots do not exist. Many motherboards have provisions for additional memory slots, but the are not always present due to space considerations etc., so it is always a good idea to open up the case and verify before ordering. I learned that the hard way upgrading a HP laptop for a friend. CPU-Z and the manufacturer’s specs said there were two slots, but when I opened it up to install the RAM, there was an empty space were the 2nd slot should have been.
